If you had the power to raise dead musicians…
So I just came back from the Madball show, and to mellow things out on the way home, I just decided to play some R&B. At first, I was just playing The Weeknd’s first mix tape, but then I decided to take it back, and started playing Marvin Gaye. As I started belting out the words to “Let’s Get It On” to a girl in my head I will never get it on with, I thought, “I wonder how it would be like if he was still alive.” So my question to you, readers, is this: if you had the power to raise dead musicians from the grave so they could play, perform, and write music again, who would it be?
I’ll give you three:
- Marvin Gaye
- Otis Redding
- Michael Jackson
For me, Marvin Gaye is an obvious choice. He died at the hands of a jealous father, right after he came out and reinvented himself with “Sexual Healing”, which would make people think, “If he can still stay relevant after ‘What’s Going On’, what could he do next?” For all you know, he’d still be making amazing music today, either singing or writing the next classic baby-maker. Now we’ll never know.
As for Otis Redding, his life was cut short before he could make more music with that passionate voice of his. I can only wonder how much more classics he would’ve made, like “Try A Little Tenderness”, which can only make me wonder how much more material from him Kanye would’ve taken as samples.
Michael Jackson was about to go out on the most epic tour in the world, with 3D effects, light shows, effects, elaborate stage props, and a performance that would have showed the world that he still had it. Yeah, I watched “This Is It”, I know. The setting was perfect, too: not only did he stay out of the limelight long enough to get himself get back together, but the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew helped redeem his name in America’s eyes, thanks to the pivotal Michael Jackson episode. Unfortunately, the world lost a legend as well as the most amazing live performance they’ll ever see….and it’s all because of the Illuminati. Hahaha, but seriously, I will always have a lot of respect for Michael Jackson, and can only wish he, like everyone I mentioned, came back to life one day.
Well, maybe not, that’d be kinda creepy. So, who would YOU bring back from the dead so they would make great music again? How come?
